Best Spam Free WordPress BuddyPress Plugin

WangGuard is the best plugin I have found to altogether eliminate spammers and sploggers from your WordPress and BuddyPress site. I have created and manage multiple blog and community sites. Since installing the WangGuard plugin I have had 0 problems with my sites. Most of the annoying spammers I do not even see, WangGuard blocks them from even being able to join my sites!!!

In the rare occasion that one does slip through, that entity is eliminated from my site with the single push of a button and all their posts go poof too.

If you run a MultiBlog website, you can easily install WangGuard for your members to use. Any group administrator has the power to submit spammers. Users do not have that power unless you let them. Do not worry, they cannot ban people from your website. It sends a request to you and you decide for yourself.

The WangGuard plugin frees up a huge amount of time for you to do more useful things to your website instead of spending all day running around putting out fires.

    Hi,

Since you are using Referrer Karma, I am guessing you are running a WordPress based site? I started a new free blog site in September called Blogurp.com (It is WordPress based), so, I run into all kinds of problems (more than just a one party blog site) with spam comments. Here are some things I use that will help. The WangGuard plugin I talked about in my blog is only good if you are running a network WordPress site where you have users signing up and and you want to ban known sploggers (like my site, blogurp.com or blogger.com or wordpress.com).

Aside from disabling comments altogether (in Settings -> Discussion at your Dashboard), you can disable html in your comments through a very good plugin called Spam Free WordPress. That is the plugin I use to make the copy and paste password for comments. Here is the guy’s website who made the plugin: http://www.toddlahman.com/spam-free-wordpress/ This plugin will cut down on a great majority of your spam comments if you use the password feature. Always install these plugins from your WordPress Dashboard beacuse its easier, or you can download the zip file and upload it yourself if you use FTP. All of these plugins are available in your WordPress Dashboard plugin search.

Also, there is a plugin called Bad Behavior Here is their website: http://bad-behavior.ioerror.us/. It is extemely good at stopping autobots and also already has an extensive blacklist. I use it, so do many major websites. It will give you a log to view all things that come and go on your website. It is a must have to stop spam.

There are other options and routes too. There is a plugin called SEO Facebook Comments, where people can leave comments with their facebook accounts instead, or with your blog comments together. You would have to get a facebook developer API for this, but, it’s very easy to do and the instructions come with the plugin.

Those are pretty much the big boys right now in stopping spam. I set them up on all my blogs and blogs I setup for other people, with the exception of SEO Facebook Comments, which some people do not prefer to have. I still get some spam, but, it is very minimal, and with these plugins, you can block ip addresses and setup your own blacklist, which, I haven’t had to do yet. I have over 20 websites and blogs just for myself and my spam is very minimal. Just email me if you have any more issues with it. I will always share what knowledge I have. If this helps you I will post my response on my blog as a reply.
